VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE dorman high school boys volleyball TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2023 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Dorman High volleyball team of Spartanburg County garnered the state title at the state tournament held on Thursday, November 2, 2023; and
Whereas, to the delight of their exuberant fans, the Dorman Cavaliers defeated a fine Carolina Forest High School from Myrtle Beach 3-1 to capture the state trophy; and
Whereas, in its inaugural season officially sanctioned by the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL), boys volleyball for the State saw a significant beginning in its championship playoffs; and
Whereas, Dorman had won an unofficial championship victory in the previous season, but after graduating nine seniors, the team successfully integrated new players and fostered strong team chemistry; and
Whereas, the Cavaliers took an impressive 15-game winning streak to open their season before suffering two narrow defeats at the Foothills Invitational Tournament, which only served to motivate the team and solidify their determination; and
Whereas, for the remainder of the season, Dorman lost only two sets and garnered victories at both the Hillcrest Invitational and the Second Annual Cavs Classic tournaments; and
Whereas, in order to reach the championship games, the Cavaliers secured the top seed in the Upstate region with a convincing 3-0 win over all three comers: Nation Ford, Mauldin, and Byrnes high schools. In a highly competitive state finals rematch against Carolina Forest, they took a 3-1 victory to reach their goal to become the inaugural SCHSL AAAAA boys volleyball state champions; and
Whereas, in a sport that requires strength, agility, and speed, Head Coach Drew Copeland and his skilled coaching staff maximized their own athletic ability and training to build a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the courts; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the pride and recognition that the Dorman volleyball players have brought to their school and their community, and the members look forward to following their continued achievements in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Dorman High School boys volleyball team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2023 South Carolina Class AAAAA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Bryant Roberson and Coach Drew Copeland.
