A house RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE LUKE SOBEY OF THE PATRICK HENRY ACADEMY WRESTLING TEAM ON A TREMENDOUS SEASON AND TO HONOR HIM FOR WINNING THE 2024 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS 1A INDIVIDUAL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE IN HIS WEIGHT CLASS.
Whereas, on February 10, 2024, at Columbia's Cardinal Newman High School, wrestler Luke Sobey of Patrick Henry Academy pinned down the 2024 South Carolina Independent School Association Class 1A Individual State Championship title in the 165-pound weight class; and
Whereas, delighted Patrick Henry fans saw their school's first-year wrestling program come out swinging with its first state champ in year one. Just a freshman, Luke Sobey dominated his 165-pound bracket to bring home the gold, giving the Patriots a hammer to build around for several seasons to come; and
Whereas, at the title competition, Luke outlasted Cardinal Newman's David Rodgers to win 7-4, thus earning the right to pack up hardware only champions get to take home; and
Whereas, in a sport that demands individual excellence and great strength, Luke Sobey maximized his athletic ability and experience to become a champion grappler, in the process learning lessons that will prove invaluable throughout life, both on and off the mat; and
Whereas, the members of the House take great pleasure in applauding the success of wrestler Luke Sobey and look forward to hearing of his continued accomplishments in the years ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Luke Sobey of the Patrick Henry Academy wrestling team on a tremendous season and honor him for winning the 2024 South Carolina Independent School Association Class 1A Individual State Championship title in his weight class.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Luke Sobey.
