A house RESOLUTION

 

to EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF Cynthia Darlene Hampton Snider OF Calhoun COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HER MANY FRIENDS.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Cynthia Darlene Hampton Snider at the age of sixty on Thursday, April 11, 2024; and

 

Whereas, born in Calhoun County on May 30, 1963, she was the daughter of Wilhelmenia Hampton Dukes and George Boneparte, Sr., and was reared in a strong Christian home with twelve siblings: Marie  Gidron, Helen Aiken, Tiffany Duley, Wendell Dukes, George Dukes, Sammie Boneparte, William Boneparte, James Earl Boneparte, the late LeRoy Hampton, Sr., the late James "Randy" Hampton, the late George Boneparte, Jr., and the late Shaquetta Boneparte; and

 

Whereas, at an early age, she began her relationship with Christ as a member of St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Lone Star. She received her education in the Orangeburg County Public Schools and graduated from Elloree High School in 1981. She attended Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology in Orangeburg and received a cosmetology license in 1988; and

 

Whereas, for over twenty-five years, Mrs. Snider was a successful stylist in Elloree, Holly Hill, and St. George and volunteered as a hair stylist with the Calhoun Convalescent Center in St. Matthews. She became a school bus driver in the early 1990s, a career spanning thirty years with the Calhoun County Public Schools, and she called her bus "The Cadillac." She was part of the Vocational Rehabilitation Family in Orangeburg, serving as an aide with her students from Calhoun County High School; and

 

Whereas, in 2013, she enrolled in Claflin University's night program, and in 2017, she earned her bachelor's degree in organizational management. In 2020, she earned a master's degree in human resource management from Strayer University; and 

 

Whereas, a devoted member of St. Luke AME Church, she used her talents to enhance the spiritual growth of the congregation, serving as a trustee, a member of the  local Women's Missionary Society, a local lay member, and a Daughter of Sarah. She served the conference level as the historiographer and was part of the Presiding Elder District, formerly Wateree, Daughters of Sarah; and 

 

Whereas, dedicated to her community, Mrs. Snider served on Calhoun County Cares and Salkehatchie Summer Services for Habitat, and she worked on community-based projects with the Honorable Russell Ott. She was instrumental in making her church a host site to feed the children in the community, providing a healthier alternative during the National Summer Food Service Program in June. She helped to establish many faith-based and civic organizations that touched the lives of youth, the elderly, and economically disadvantaged citizens throughout the local and surrounding counties; and

 

Whereas, she enjoyed fishing, playing family card games, fellowshipping with people, and watching the Lady Gamecocks with "Uncommon Favor" Dawn Staley; and

 

Whereas, she married her beloved husband, the late Roosevelt Snider, Jr., in 1982, and they reared three fine children: Edwin Snider, Contrellis Hampton, and Shakeia Hampton, who blessed her with seven grandchildren: Dameisha, Quinterius, Joshua, Michael, Arianna, Kennedy, and Camryn; and

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is grateful for the life and legacy of Cynthia Snider, whose life is like the Apostle Paul who said, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith; henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness."  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Cynthia Darlene Hampton Snider of Calhoun County and extend their deepest sympathy to her large and loving family and her many friends.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Cynthia Darlene Hampton Snider.
