A concurrent RESOLUTION
To honor Staff at the University of South Carolina for Their hard work and many contributions made to the flagship university, to congratulate them, and to declare May 14, 2024, as "USC Staff Day" in the Palmetto State.
Whereas, USC staff help create and foster an environment of excellence for students; and
Whereas, USC staff nurture a communicative and safe environment across the campus system, ensure that students are aware of on and off campus resources, and maintain a demonstrative and hopeful atmosphere by exemplifying the Carolinian Creed; and
Whereas, USC staff make up sixty-five percent of university employees. As of the fall of 2023, there were a total of three thousand seven hundred seventy employees, twenty-four of whom have over thirty-five years of service, forty-one have thirty years of service, and one hundred seventeen have twenty-five years of service. The staff make up a diverse talent pool of over two hundred South Carolina state job classifications possessing significant institutional knowledge, innovation, and ingenuity; and
Whereas, USC staff guide, support, and advocate for students in all aspects. Students are in contact with USC staff daily whether it be for admissions, Blackboard, parking, restaurants, information technology support, housing, the bursar, recreation, research, financial aid and scholarships, fraternity and sorority life, leadership and service, multicultural student affairs, advising, development, the Russell House, the Thomas Cooper Library, the registrar, media, University 101, University Health Services, Veterans Services, athletics, and much more; and
Whereas, USC staff's presence and support help ensure the student experience is excellent, which in turn helps attract future students and retain students at the university. USC is number one nationwide for the top first-year student experience according to "U.S. News and World Report's" annual undergraduate rankings; and
Whereas, USC staff is a diverse body of employees who serve as a daily example of strength and resilience with fortitude. Staff have given countless hours, service, achievements, and accomplishments contributing to the rich history of the university. USC staff help cultivate an environment of knowledge, wisdom, perseverance, and passion, touching innumerable students' lives; and
Whereas, USC staff endeavor to foster and maintain collegiality and professionalism with USC administrators, faculty, and other staff; and
Whereas, USC staff continue to have a unique impact on the campus of the University of South Carolina and reflect the values of this flagship university making the student's experience the remarkable "We". Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, honor USC staff at the University of South Carolina for their hard work and many contributions made to the flagship university, congratulate them, and declare May 14, 2024, as "USC Staff Day" in the Palmetto State.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the USC Staff Senate on behalf of the University of South Carolina staff.
