A house RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE WANDO HIGH SCHOOL BOYS LACROSSE TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR A STELLAR SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2024 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Wando High School boys lacrosse team captured the South Carolina High School League Class AAAAA state title at the championship finals, held on Saturday, April 27, 2024; and

Whereas, to the cheers of their exuberant fans, the Wando Warriors earned the state crown with a convincing 17-7 victory over Nation Ford. The win was special since the Warriors fell to the Falcons in last year's championship game; and

Whereas, Wando (17-3) scored three goals in the first four minutes of the contest and led 8-1 after the first quarter to take control. A team victory, Connor Carretta led the team with four goals, while Connor Bennett and Luke Moore scored three goals apiece. Harris Beck, Sean Carroll, and Bragg McConnell each scored twice, and Pierce Melella scored once; and

Whereas, this is the Warriors' second state crown in boys lacrosse in three years and the eighth championship overall for the program. Wando has now played in twelve straight state title games; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands agility, strategy, and strength, Head Coach Lance Renes and his skilled coaching staff maximized their own athletic experience and training to forge a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable throughout life, both on and off the field; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the pride and recognition the Wando lacrosse players have brought to their school and their community, and the members look forward to following their continued achievements in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Wando High School boys lacrosse team, coaches, and school officials for a stellar season and congratulate them for winning the 2024 South Carolina Class AAAAA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Chas Coker and Head Coach Lance Renes of Wando High School.
