A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR Joshua Shumpert, Chief of the South Congaree Police Department, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives have learned that Joshua Shumpert has begun a well-deserved retirement after years as a premier law enforcement officer, the last of which have been as the distinguished and highly regarded chief of the South Congaree Police Department; and
Whereas, the son of Daryl and Sandra Shumpert and a native of Lexington County, he attended Congaree Elementary School and Fulmer Middle School and graduated from Airport High School in 2001, where he started with the Lexington County Law Enforcement Explorers Program and volunteered with the South Congaree Police Department in 2000; and
Whereas, Chief Shumpert studied criminal justice at Midlands Technical College. He became a reserve officer for South Congaree in 2003 before being hired by the Cayce Police Department as a full-time officer and graduating from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in 2004; and
Whereas, he returned after a year to his hometown department in South Congaree where he served for nineteen years. He worked his way up in the South Congaree Police Department from a volunteer to become the department's first K-9 officer. He was promoted to a lieutenant and became police chief in 2013; and
Whereas, a graduate of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Commanders School, Chief Shumpert is a member of the South Carolina Police Chiefs Association, and he was able to put the first full-time school resource officer in Congaree Elementary School where he had attended; and
Whereas, a faithful member of Ebenezer Pentecostal Church in South Congaree, he plans to spend many happy hours of retirement with his beloved wife of twenty years, Rea, and his three fine children: Chandler, Chase, and Kayley; and
Whereas, grateful for his many years of distinguished service to the South Congaree Police Department, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pleasure in extending best wishes to Joshua Shumpert as he transitions to a richly deserved retirement and the unhurried pace of the days ahead, and the members wish him many years of enjoyment in his well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Joshua Shumpert, chief of the South Congaree Police Department, upon the occasion of his retirement after years of outstanding service, and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Joshua Shumpert.
