A house RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF Dr. Thomas Perrin Jones OF Sumter COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HIS MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Thomas Perrin Jones at the age of seventy-five on Wednesday, June 12, 2024; and
Whereas, born in Richmond, Virginia, he was a son of the late Wallie Bernard Jones and Lois Cogburn Jones and was reared in a loving family with brothers and a sister in the Pinewood community; and
Whereas, Dr. Jones earned a bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina, where he played baseball, and he earned a doctorate in dental medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, he practiced dentistry in Sumter for forty-eight years and retired in October 2023. He coached baseball and basketball teams in the parks and recreation leagues, at Wilson Hall School, and at Lakewood High School; and
Whereas, with a vibrant and personal relationship with Jesus Christ, Dr. Jones was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, where he was involved in Bible study; and
Whereas, together with his beloved wife, Mary Virginia "Jeanie" Ridgill Jones, he reared five fine children: Rick Jones, Mike Jones, Jeff Jones, Russ Jones, and Kell Jones. His children blessed him with the affection of ten loving grandchildren; and
Whereas, in all he undertook as a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a coach, a dentist, a friend, Dr. Jones brought definition to total and selfless commitment; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Thomas Jones and for the example of kindness and service he set for all who knew him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Dr. Thomas Perrin Jones of Sumter County and extend their deepest sympathy to his large and loving family and his many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Thomas Perrin Jones.
