A house RESOLUTION

 

To congratulate Chairman Joseph Branham on his upcoming departure from the Chester County Council and to thank him for his invaluable public service.

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to congratulate Chairman Joseph Branham on his upcoming end-of-year departure from the Chester County Council after nearly three decades of service; and

 

Whereas, a son of the Palmetto State, Joseph Branham was born and raised in Blackstock. In preparation for his life's work, he attended Clemson College, completed an electrical course at York Technical College, and attended Carolina Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina. He has been married to his wife, Brenda, for sixty years, and they have been blessed with three children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and

 

Whereas, Chairman Branham had a successful career in several industries, having worked at Spring Mills, Chester Foundry, Torrington Bearing Company, and lastly at Duke Energy from which he retired after thirty-one years of service. This professional experience combined with his educational and entrepreneurial backgrounds positioned him to make invaluable contributions to the Chester County Council; and

 

Whereas, Chairman Branham has been a member of the Chester County Council for twenty-eight years, serving from 1980 to 1990, and then again from 2006 to the present. Currently chairman of the county council, he is a past vice chairman and has been a member of the Legislative Intergovernmental Relations Committee, the Nomination Committee, and Scholarship Fund Committees; and

 

Whereas, in addition to serving on county council, Chairman Branham has contributed his time and talent to his community as past chair for the Catawba Regional Council of Governments, past chair of the I-77 Alliance board of directors, and past president of the South Carolina Association of Counties, among other ways. He is also a member of the Livestock Associations, chairman of the Insurance Trust and Liability of South Carolina Association of Counties, and a member of the Chester Development Association; and

 

Whereas, a man of faith, Joseph Branham is a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church where he serves as an elder, sings in the choir, and is president of the Men of the Covenant. He also has served his church as past chairman of the building committee, a former adult Sunday school teacher, past moderator of the Presbytery, as a member of the membership committee, and as a delegate to the PCA General Assembly; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the committed service Joeseph Branham has given to Chester County and hope he finds enjoyment in his future endeavors. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Chairman Joseph Branham upon his upcoming departure from the Chester County Council and thank him for his invaluable public service.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Chairman Joseph Branham.
