A senate RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR Reverend James Ross.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Reverend James Ross; and
Whereas, a native of Dorchester, Reverend Ross was born on October 23, 1947 to parents Dan and Thelma Mays Ross. He attended Jenkins Hill and joined St. Daniel United Methodist Church at an early age; and
Whereas, Reverend Ross began his singing career with his four brothers and later sang with various ensembles, including The Friendly Gospel Singers, The Silver Stars, The Sweet Inspirations, and The Community Voices. He served as the President of the St. Daniel UM Church Gospel Choir and traveled to spread the gospel through songs. While living in New York, he even auditioned for The Temptations; and
Whereas, Reverend Ross worked at a cement plant for over forty years before he retired in 2008. In addition to this work, Reverend Ross is a licensed Funeral Director. He has a passion for serving in this capacity and manages several funeral homes in the Lowcountry area; and
Whereas, Reverend Ross has been pastoring in United Methodist churches for more than thirty years. He began preaching while he was working at St. Daniel United Methodist Church. He then began preaching at Mt. Nebo and Toby's United Methodist Churches of Islandton on a temporary basis but ended up preaching there for sixteen years; and
Whereas, Reverend Ross then moved on to serve as pastor at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Walterboro. After leaving that charge, he was sent to the Wesley charge in Beaufort. He stayed on that charge for eleven years; and
Whereas, Reverend Ross is now serving at Morris Chapel and St. Daniel United Methodist Church, where he has many friends and family members; and
Whereas, Reverend Ross has been married to the former Ethel Johnson for fifty-six years. Together they have two children, Angela Michelle Manigault and James Alexander Ross; and four grandchildren, Breyon Shante' Manigault, Rickie Javon Manigault, Elizabeth Camille Ross, and Olivia Taylor Ross; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment that Reverend Ross has shown in serving the people and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Reverend James Ross.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Reverend James Ross.
