A senate RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE april 26, 2024 AS "Dare to be BRAVE DAY" IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, BRAVE, which stands for Building Respect and Values for Everyone, has been the national platform for the Miss High School America Organization for the past fifteen years. The organization aims to spread a message of inclusion, acceptance, and kindness across the country; and

Whereas, throughout the nation, twenty percent of students report being bullied into adulthood and forty-one percent of students who have been bullied think it will happen to them again. The goal of "DARE to be BRAVE Day" is to educate students on the impacts of bullying and how they can help decrease these statistics to ensure a bully-free and safe environment; and

Whereas, "Dare to be BRAVE Day" strives to reach every student in the state of South Carolina and teach them how to stand up, stand strong, and stand together. A unified front will equip each student with the knowledge and confidence to eradicate bullying one situation at a time; and

Whereas, the Miss High School America Organization stresses the importance of being "stand-buyers," not bystanders, when bullying is happening, encouraging students to stand up for themselves, for their peers, and for what is right; and

Whereas, when students stand together as a community, they can lift each other up and put a stop to violence and intimidation whenever they see it by reporting the bullying behavior to a trusted adult.  Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize April 26, 2024 as "Dare to be BRAVE Day" in South Carolina.
