A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE THE YORK COMPREHENSIVE HIGH SCHOOL BOYS STRENGTH TEAM ON CAPTURING THE 2023-2024 SCHSSCA CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AND TO CELEBRATE THE GIRLS STRENGTH TEAM ON WINNING FOUR INDIVIDUAL STATE TITLES AT THEIR 2023-2024 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MEET.

 

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to learn that the boys strength team of York Comprehensive High School took top honors at the SCHSSCA Class AAAA State Championship meet, held at Lexington High School on March 23, 2024, and that the York Comprehensive girls strength team scored four individual champions in its state meet, which took place at Blythewood High on November 11, 2023; and

 

Whereas, with dogged determination, these young Cougar athletes defeated all comers to clinch their championship titles; and

 

Whereas, state champions in their individual weight classes for the boys team were junior "Junior" Duncan (140 pounds) and senior Dalton Russell (150 pounds). In addition to nailing the AAAA state championship, the boys team took home the title of overall champion and earned a meet high of seven All-State finalists and two state champions; and

 

Whereas, state champions in their individual weight classes for the girls team were junior Gracin Carroll (120 pounds), junior Jordan Welsh (130 pounds), sophomore A.C. Lingerfelt (150 pounds), and sophomore Briley "Bug" Comer (160 pounds). To add further sweetness to these victories, Lady Cougar A.C. Lingerfelt was named Female Strength Athlete of the Year; and

 

Whereas, further, football Head Coach Dean Boyd was inducted into the Strength Coaches Hall of Fame; and

 

Whereas, in a sport that demands great physical power and individual excellence, Head Coach Chad Cooksey and Assistant Coaches Jason Layman, Jordy McCoy, and Danelle Hagan capitalized on their own athletic prowess to mold a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable throughout life, both on and off the mat; and

 

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to salute the young athletes of the York Comprehensive High School strength program, and the members are confident that the Cougars will continue to excel in the years ahead. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the York Comprehensive High School boys strength team on capturing the 2023-2024 SCHSSCA Class AAAA State Championship title and celebrate the girls strength team on winning four individual state titles at their 2023-2024 state championship meet.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal John Tharp and Head Coach Chad Cooksey of York Comprehensive High School.
