A bill
TO AMEND ACT 595 OF 1992, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE EDGEFIELD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, SO AS TO REAPPORTION THE SEVEN SINGLE-MEMBER DISTRICTS FROM WHICH THE TRUSTEES ARE ELECTED BEGINNING WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT ELECTIONS IN 2024, TO REDESIGNATE THE MAP NUMBER ON WHICH THESE ELECTION DISTRICTS ARE DELINEATED, AND TO PROVIDE DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION PERTAINING TO THE REAPPORTIONED ELECTION DISTRICTS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. SECTION 1 of Act 595 of 1992, as last amended by Act 305 of 2014, is further amended to read:
SECTION 1. (A) The Edgefield County School District must be composed of seven single-member districts from which members of the board of trustees of the district must be elected beginning with the next general election for school trustees by the qualified electors of that district as delineated on map
number S-37-00-14S-37-00-24, maintained by the Office of Research and Statistics of the State Budget and Control BoardRevenue and Fiscal Affairs.
(B) The demographic information shown on this map is as follows:

SECTION 2. SECTION 3 of Act 595 of 1992, as amended by Act 305 of 2014, is further amended to read:
SECTION 3. (A) Beginning in 20142026, successors to the incumbent members representing single-member Districts 1 and 2 on the Edgefield County School District Board of Trustees must be elected for terms of four years in nonpartisan elections to be conducted at the same time as the general election of that year to be held in the manner provided in this act.
(B) Beginning in 20142026, a member representing single-member District 6 on the Edgefield County School District Board of Trustees must be elected for a term of four years in the nonpartisan elections to be conducted at the same time as the general election of that year to be held in the manner provided in this act.
(C) The incumbent members representing single-member Districts 3, 4, 5, and 7 on the Edgefield County School District Board of Trustees shall continue to represent these districts until the expiration of their current terms in 20162024, at which time their successors must be elected for four year terms in nonpartisan elections to be conducted at the same time as the 20162024 general election to be held in the manner provided in this act.
(D) Each Membersmember of the Edgefield County School District Board of Trustees must be a residentsresident and qualified electors elector of the single-member districts district from which he is
elected, and must be elected by all of the qualified electors of the district. All members of the board shall serve until their successors are elected and qualify.
SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
