The committee on House Invitations and Memorial Resolutions
To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (S. 1304) to request the Department of Transportation name the portion of Bluff Road in Richland County from its intersection with Windy Drive to its intersection with Pineview, etc., respectfully
Report:
That they have duly and carefully considered the same, and recommend that the same do pass:
DENNIS MOSS for Committee.
_______
A concurrent RESOLUTION
To request the Department of Transportation name the portion of Bluff Road in Richland county from its intersection with Windy Drive to its intersection with pineview drive "Deputy Sheriff Jacob Eric Salrin Memorial way" and erect appropriate signs or markers along this portion of highway containing these words.
Whereas, Jacob Eric Salrin was born on September 4, 2000, to Aimee Jo Smith Terhark and Eric Richard Salrin in Springfield, Illinois. He was a 2019 graduate of Washington Community High School; and
Whereas, following in his sister's footsteps and with a desire to help others, Jacob decided to pursue a career in law enforcement. He joined the Richland County Sheriff's Department in March of 2022, and earned his certificate from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in January 2023; and
Whereas, Jacob loved being a deputy and working with the sheriff's department. During his short tenure, he made a tremendous impact on every life he touched. A rising star in the department, he never settled for average, always seeking to excel in all he did; and
Whereas, he was dedicated to earning the Clifford A. Moyer Award at the Criminal Justice Academy and days before his untimely death, he was selected as the Deputy of the Quarter, which was given posthumously; and
Whereas, Deputy Salrin passed away tragically on September 29, 2023, killed in a vehicle collision at an intersection on Bluff Road while responding to a call for service. Left to mourn his passing are his parents, his big sister Allie and her husband, Nick Zammuto, his law enforcement family, Region 1 deputies, and all his fellow South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Class 275; and
Whereas, it is only fitting and proper that Deputy Sheriff Salrin be honored for paying the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty by naming a portion of highway in Richland County in his memory. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, request the Department of Transportation name the portion of Bluff Road in Richland Couty from its intersection with Windy Drive to its intersection with Pineview Drive "Deputy Sheriff Jacob Eric Salrin Memorial Way" and erect appropriate signs or markers along this portion of highway containing these words.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
