A house RESOLUTION

TO SALUTE LAWRENCE RAY "LARRY" LEAGANS, SR., OF NORTH MYRTLE BEACH FOR A LIFETIME OF SERVICE TO HIS COMMUNITY, STATE, AND NATION AND TO WISH HIM MUCH HEALTH AND HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to honor Lawrence Ray "Larry" Leagans, Sr., of North Myrtle Beach, a remarkable son of South Carolina who has lived a life devoted to serving others and who is thereby deserving of high praise; and

Whereas, born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and educated in the Forsyth County public schools, Larry joined the United States Air Force upon graduation from high school and proudly served in our country's military for four years, during which time he was stationed at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base; and

Whereas, while serving our nation, Larry worked part-time at the Thunderbird Motor Inn and discovered his keen interest in facility management. He went on to serve full-time at the Thunderbird from March 1968 until January 1971, working his way up to assistant manager; and

Whereas, in January 1971, Larry was hired as general manager of the Cabana Terrace Motor Inn in North Myrtle Beach and served in that position until the inn was sold in 1984. He next leased and operated Eagle Nest Golf Club, which he quickly improved in both quality and reputation through 2001; and

Whereas, over the years, Larry has served as chairman of the North Myrtle Beach Accommodations Association and the North Myrtle Beach Accommodation Tax Committee. In addition, he has served as campaign manager for South Carolina State Senator Dick Elliott, as president of the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association, as vice president of the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce, and as president of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday; and

Whereas, a charter member and board member of the Myrtle Beach Golf Tee Time Network, he also has served as vice chairman of the Horry County Planning Commission and chairman of the Horry County Elections Commission. His contributions to the game of golf have brought him election to the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame; and

Whereas, Larry feels that his most important accomplishment was being married to Linda Jane Bowen for fifty-two wonderful years. His family also includes a daughter, a son, and five grandchildren. A man of faith, Larry is active in his church, Lakeside Baptist, where he serves on the sound/media team. You also may see Larry working in the garden or, of course, golfing; and

Whereas, it is a very great pleasure to recognize Lawrence Ray "Larry" Leagans, Sr., for his many years of service to the people of this great State and beyond. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, salute Lawrence Ray "Larry" Leagans, Sr., of North Myrtle Beach for a lifetime of service to his community, State, and nation and wish him much health and happiness in the days ahead.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Larry Leagans.
