To who was referred a Concurrent Resolution (S. 411) to request that the Department of Transportation name the portion of U.S. Highway 76 from the Little Mountain town limit to the Newberry/Lexington County line, etc., respectfully
Report:
That they have duly and carefully considered the same, and recommend that the same do pass with amendment:
Amend the concurrent resolution, as and if amended, by striking the fourth undesignated paragraph on page 2 and inserting:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, request that the Department of Transportation name the bridge on College Street in the City of Newberry in Newberry County "The Honorable Walton J. McLeod III Bridge" and erect appropriate markers or signs at this location containing the designation.
Amend further the concurrent resolution by striking the title on page 1 and inserting:
TO REQUEST THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE BRIDGE ON COLLEGE STREET IN THE CITY OF NEWBERRY IN NEWBERRY COUNTY "THE HONORABLE WALTON J. MCCLOED III BRIDGE" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS LOCATION CONTAINING THESE WORDS.
Renumber sections to conform.
Amend title to conform.

A concurrent RESOLUTION
TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE PORTION OF U.S. HIGHWAY 76 FROM THE LITTLE MOUNTAIN TOWN LIMIT TO THE NEWBERRY/LEXINGTON COUNTY LINE "THE HONORABLE WALTON J. MCLEOD III HIGHWAY" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS LOCATION CONTAINING these words.
Whereas, from 1997 until 2016, the Honorable Walton J. McLeod III represented the citizens of House District 40 in Newberry County in the House of Representatives with his faithful integrity and characteristic good humor; and
Whereas, Representative McLeod completed his undergraduate studies at Yale University in 1959, followed by studies at the University of South Carolina, where he earned his LL.B. degree in 1964. He also attended the University of Minneapolis Public Health School in 1972; and
Whereas, Representative McLeod is a veteran of the United States Navy and the United States Navy Reserve; and
Whereas, Representative McLeod began his career as a law clerk to Chief Judge Clement Haynsworth of the United States 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. He was an attorney with Pope & Schumpert before serving as the Assistant United States Attorney, as General Counsel for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, and as Deputy South Carolina Attorney General; and
Whereas, in addition to his election to the South Carolina House of Representatives, Representative McLeod was elected to serve as mayor of Little Mountain from 1983 until 1989 and from 1993 until 1996; and
Whereas, Representative McLeod has carried forward his family's rich history of community service through various local, state, and national organizations; and
Whereas, a devout Christian, Representative McLeod attends Holy Trinity Lutheran Church; and
Whereas, Representative McLeod is married to Julie E. Hamiter, and together they have one child; and
Whereas, it would be only fitting and proper to pay tribute to this son of South Carolina by naming a portion of road in the State in his honor. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, request that the Department of Transportation name the portion of U. S. Highway 76 from the Little Mountain town limit to the Newberry/Lexington County line "The Honorable Walton J. McLeod III Highway" and erect appropriate markers or signs at this location containing the designation.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation and presented to the Honorable Walton J. McLeod III.
