A house RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR Beth Randall FULMER, A science TEACHER AT Pelion High SCHOOL IN LEXINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT One, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR BEING NAMED THE SCHOOL'S TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Beth Randall Fulmer has been named the Teacher of the Year at Pelion High School in Lexington County School District One; and

Whereas, intended to honor and showcase outstanding professional educators who exemplify the ideals of the educational profession and whose efforts and example have inspired others, the Teacher of the Year Program seeks to recognize teachers who demonstrate exemplary leadership and excellence in teaching; and

Whereas, Mrs. Fulmer earned a bachelor's degree from the Calhoun Honors College at Clemson University in biological sciences.  A few years after graduation, she applied for a teaching job near her hometown even though she knew the grueling hours and emotional sacrifices required in the education profession, having watched her father, an educator and coach, while she was growing up; and

Whereas, she was accepted into the PACE Program for a science-certification position, and she began teaching physics and chemistry.  Although those subjects had never been her favorites, she realized very quickly that the classroom was where she belonged, bringing together her love of learning and young people; and

Whereas, Mrs. Fulmer has always loved learning and sharing the learning process, teaching countless stuffed animals, Barbie dolls, and her little sister through her childhood years; and

Whereas, she tutored family members and friends from elementary school forward, worked as an academic tutor for the athletics department while in college, and taught art and piano classes during her summers; and

Whereas, Mrs. Fulmer has taught science at Pelion High School for the past sixteen years.  With a passion for learning, she enjoys sharing the wonders of the human body with her students in human anatomy and physiology classes and in discovering unknowns about the vast ocean that covers seventy percent of planet Earth in her marine science classes; and

Whereas, she has served the school as a golf coach, a National Beta Club sponsor, and the lead science teacher for her department; and

Whereas, together with her beloved husband, Louis who is a welding teacher at Barnwell County Career Center, she is rearing three precious children: Robert aged twelve, Jack aged ten, and Amelia aged four.  A devoted Christian, she is very involved at her church, Springfield First Baptist, serving as the pianist, leading the children's music program, and assisting in teaching children from preschoolers up to sixth grade; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives value the work of dedicated educators in the Palmetto State, who devote themselves to our youth by helping them to prepare to become productive citizens, and especially teachers like Beth Fulmer, whose outstanding service has been honored by her fellow teachers.  Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Beth Randall Fulmer, a science teacher at Pelion High School in Lexington County School District One, and congratulate her for being named the school's Teacher of the Year.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Beth Randall Fulmer.
