A house RESOLUTION

 

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE Lucy Beckham High School boys lacrosse TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR A STELLAR SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2023 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Lucy Beckham High School lacrosse team of Charleston County captured the state title at the state championship game held in Irmo on April 29, 2023; and

 

Whereas, to the cheers of their exuberant fans, the Lucy Beckham Bengals defeated a fine, competitive Christ Church Episcopal School 20-13 to win their second straight state title and finish the season with a 13-4 record; and

 

Whereas, in the championship game, the Bengals came from behind by scoring three goals in less than a minute in the second quarter for a 7-6 lead, a lead which they held for the rest of the game.  Austin Constable led the Lucy Beckham team with six goals, and Ryan McCarthy found the back of the net four times for the Bengals.  Flynn Wilson went over 500 career faceoff wins, and Ryan Weis broke the 400-career-save mark during the state finals; and

 

Whereas in three years of the lacrosse program at Lucy Beckham, the team has posted a 43-8 overall record, including two consecutive 4A state titles.  The Bengals did not lose to a single in-state opponent this year, beating all the other teams that appeared in the state finals this year, and they defeated nationally-ranked opponents Episcopal School of Dallas, Texas, and Ponte Vedra High School in Florida; and

 

Whereas, in a sport that demands agility, strategy, and strength, Head Coach Parker Ferrigan and his skilled coaching staff maximized their own athletic experience and training to forge a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the field; and

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the pride and recognition that the Lucy Beckham lacrosse players have brought to their school and their community, and the members look forward to following their continued achievements in the days ahead.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Lucy Beckham High School boys lacrosse team, coaches, and school officials for a stellar season and congratulate them for winning the 2023 South Carolina Class 4A State Championship title.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Anna Dassing and Coach Parker Ferrigan.
