A senate RESOLUTION

to express the profound sorrow of the members of the south carolina senate upon the passing of Barbara Jean Perry beaty Dotson of Richland County and to extend their deepest sympathy to her loving family and her many friends.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Barbara Jean Perry Beaty Dotson at the age of seventy-five on Thursday, January 2, 2025; and

Whereas, born in Columbia on October 26, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Jesse J. Perry Sr. and Mary Lou Perry; and

Whereas, the young Barbara was educated in the public schools of Richland County. After graduating, she attended and graduated from Midlands Technical College with her associate degree in business. She was employed with the State Park Health Center for five years and was also a real estate agent for Church Ruff Realty for many years; and

Whereas, Barbara Dotson began her career with Blue Ribbon Taxi Cab Company forty-six years ago as an aspiring entrepreneur with a unique set of skills that enabled her to identify and make the most of opportunities. She started out as a taxi driver because she loved meeting people, and after twenty years, became the first female president of the company and served in that role for nearly twenty-five years while continuing the company's long legacy; and

Whereas, facing challenges as a female president in a male-dominated industry, the company underwent a transformation. At that time, the taxicab business did not have women at the helm, so initially Barbara Dotson had to earn respect as a woman in the industry. With her tenacity and perseverance, she overcame difficult challenges to become a highly regarded businesswoman; and

Whereas, a born leader, she motivated and mentored others, always emphasizing continuous professional development and championing customer service as a cornerstone of success. She would often revert to her mantra: "Customer service is key in any business"; and

Whereas, deeply involved in providing an invaluable service to her community for more than four decades, Barbara Dotson always maintained her grace and genuine sense of caring for everyone she met; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is grateful for the life and legacy of Barbara Jean Perry Beaty Dotson and for the example she set for all who knew her.  Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express the profound sorrow upon the passing of Barbara Jean Perry Beaty Dotson of Richland County and extend their deepest sympathy to her loving family and her many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Barbara Dotson.
