A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO SALUTE THE WILSON HALL BOYS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM ON CAPTURING THE 2024 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AND TO CONGRATULATE THE TEAM'S COACHES AND RUNNERS ON A SUPERLATIVE SEASON.

 

Whereas, the air on your face and the ground under your feet feel different when you reach the top of the mountain. The Wilson Hall Barons found that out on Saturday, October 26, 2024, when they bested all comers to claim the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) Class 4A State Championship in boys cross country; and

 

Whereas, competing on the campus of Columbia's Heathwood Hall, Wilson Hall edged out John Paul II by one point to nail the state title; and

 

Whereas, in a field that demands discipline, practice, and focused energy, Head Coach Reid Schwartz and his fine staff capitalized on their own athletic skills to mold a championship team and teach their runners lessons that will prove invaluable throughout life, both on and off the course; and

 

Whereas, making a sweet victory even sweeter, two top-ten runners from Wilson Hall at the title meet were tapped for All-State, Caulder Williamson (second) and Trip Hunt (eighth). Others among the Barons' top five scorers were Abel Ayres (eleventh), Ben Rabon (seventeenth), and Gavin Getz (thirty-third). In addition, Caulder Williamson, who set a new school record at the title meet, was voted Hines Furniture Athlete of the Week by the readers of The Sumter Item; and

 

Whereas, the members of the Wilson Hall boys cross country team have given their school and community reason to be proud of their accomplishments, and the Senate takes great pleasure in adding its collective voice to the encomiums flowing in to this outstanding group of young athletes. Go, Barons! Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, salute the Wilson Hall boys cross country team on capturing the 2024 South Carolina Independent School Association Class 4A State Championship title and congratulate the team's coaches and runners on a superlative season.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head of School Brent C. Kaneft and Head Coach Reid Schwartz of Wilson Hall.
