A house RESOLUTION
To recognize and commend the employees of Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative for their unwavering dedication and outstanding restoration efforts following the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene in September 2024.
Whereas, when Hurricane Helene tore through South Carolina at the end of September, it caused historic and catastrophic damage to Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative's infrastructure, breaking nearly five hundred poles throughout the service territory and disrupting critical transmission, electrical, and fiber systems, resulting in widespread outages that affected most of the cooperative's members; and
Whereas, from the moment the storm cleared, Mid-Carolina Electric's line workers, fiber system crews, and supporting staff, along with crews from across the nation, worked tirelessly to restore power and rebuild essential infrastructure, ensuring that every home and business regained service as quickly as possible; and
Whereas, the restoration effort was a true testament to community spirit, with neighbors supporting one another and many community members expressing gratitude to the cooperative's employees through words of encouragement, meals, and acts of kindness, which uplifted the teams working in challenging conditions; and
Whereas, the dedication and teamwork demonstrated by Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative employees reflect the core values of service, commitment, and resilience, proving that no challenge is too great when a community comes together; and
Whereas, the efforts of the cooperative's employees embody the spirit of South Carolina by exemplifying extraordinary public service, inspiring those around them, and ensuring that members of the cooperative were not only reconnected to power but also to hope and unity; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is deeply grateful to the Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative employees for their outstanding restoration efforts following Hurricane Helene and commend their dedication to serving the community in times of need. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the employees of Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative for their unwavering dedication and outstanding restoration efforts following the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene in September 2024.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the employees of Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative as a token of the South Carolina House of Representatives' recognition and appreciation.
