A house RESOLUTION
to recognize and honor PROFESSOR PAUL MAPFUMO, VICE CHANCELLOR of the UNIVERSITY OF ZIMBABWE, and to congratulate him for his successful service to his country, his university, and his students.
Whereas, Professor Paul Mapfumo, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe (UZ), is a prominent academic and visionary leader. With an impressive background in agriculture and environmental sciences, he has contributed to the development of higher education and scientific research in Zimbabwe. Holding a Bachelor of Science in agriculture, a Master of Philosophy, and a Doctor of Philosophy from UZ, his academic expertise spans soil science, agricultural sustainability, and climate change response; and
Whereas, under his leadership, UZ has solidified its position as a premier institution of learning in Zimbabwe. Professor Mapfumo has played a pivotal role in shaping national strategies, including the development of Zimbabwe's first National Climate Change Response Strategy, and has been an integral part of the country's efforts to integrate scientific research with policy. His work extends beyond Zimbabwe, with contribution to international platforms, such as the United Nations High-Level Panel on Food Security and Nutrition, where he provides expertise into sustainable agricultural practices; and
Whereas, a recognized authority in his field, Professor Mapfumo is a prolific scholar with over one hundred fifty published research papers in leading regional and international journals. He is a driving force in transforming Zimbabwe's academic and scientific landscape and is dedicated to advancing education, environmental stewardship, and innovation for future generations. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Professor Paul Mapfumo, Vice Chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe, and congratulate him for his successful service to his country, his university, and his students.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Professor Paul Mapfumo.
