A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE Dorman High School girls volleyball TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR A STELLAR SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2024 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Dorman girls volleyball team of Spartanburg County captured the state title at the state championship match held on November 14, 2024; and
Whereas, to the cheers of their exuberant fans, the Dorman Lady Cavaliers defeated a competitive Wando High School winning three of the best-of-five sets, 25-21, 25-21, 19-25, 25-15, making the third set the only one Dorman dropped throughout the entire state tournament; and
Whereas, the 2024 win was the sixteenth state championship for the Dorman girls volleyball team, the first in the Class AAAAA Division One era. The Lady Cavaliers volleyball team was led by five outstanding seniors: Leah Farley, Lizzie Nelson, Kayla O'Brien, Emory Sullivan, and Sophia Warren; and
Whereas, Cavalier junior Reese Shugart was named the Class AAAAA Volleyball Player of the Year, the South Carolina Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year, and the Region II Player of the Year. Ramsey Larke Chastain, Kayla O'Brien, and Reese Shugart were named to All-State; and
Whereas, Kayla O'Brien and Sophia Warren were named North-South Volleyball All-Stars. Cavalier players named All-Region were seniors Kayla O'Brien and Sophia Warren and juniors Grace America, Ramsey Larke Chastain, and Reese Shugart; and
Whereas, the Dorman volleyball team finished their season with a perfect region 14-0 record and an overall record of 35-4; only one of the four losses was to a South Carolina opponent; and
Whereas, in a sport that requires speed, precision, and strength, Head Coach Paula Kirkland, named the Region Coach of the Year, and her skilled coaching staff maximized their own athletic experience and training to produce yet another championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the courts; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives value the pride and recognition that the Dorman girls volleyball players have brought to their school and their community, and the members look forward to following the team's continued achievements in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Dorman High School girls volleyball team, coaches, and school officials for a stellar season and congratulate them for winning the 2024 South Carolina Class AAAAA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Bryant Roberson and Coach Paula Kirkland.
