A house RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE anna mary furtick rivers OF orangeburg county ON THE OCCASION OF HER one hundredth BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND continued health and HAPPINESS.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is delighted to learn that Anna Mary Furtick Rivers of Orangeburg County will celebrate her one hundredth birthday on March 29, 2025; and
Whereas, born in Orangeburg on March 29, 1925, Anna was the third child to the late Bennie Furtick and the late Viola Washington Furtick. She is the only surviving child of her siblings, Bennie Lee Jr., Luke, Ildra, Ida, James, Leroy, Betty Louise, and Betty Jean; and
Whereas, Ms. Rivers was educated in the public schools of Orangeburg County. She began her spiritual journey at an early age and joined Jerusalem United Methodist Church, now known as Edisto Fork United Methodist Church; and
Whereas, Anna Mary Furtick Rivers was united in marriage to the late Henry Rivers Sr. on July 31, 1943. Together, they were blessed with five children: Mary Ann, Henry Jr., Brenda, Richard, and Larry-all of whom are living, a source of great pride for her. She is also a proud grandmother to fifteen grandchildren, as well as a cherished great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother to a growing lineage of descendants; and
Whereas, Ms. Rivers delights in cooking meals and baking desserts to share with both her family and her community. She enjoys reminiscing by sharing stories from her childhood and taking long car rides to compare how places have changed over the years. In her leisure time, Ms. Rivers loves watching her favorite TV shows, including Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and the evening news; and
Whereas, it is a great pleasure to honor Anna Mary Furtick Rivers, matriarch of her family as well as her late husband's family, at the celebration of her 100th birthday. It is a further pleasure to join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this important life milestone. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Anna Mary Furtick Rivers of Orangeburg County on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and continued health and happiness.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Anna Mary Furtick Rivers.
