A house RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE MT. LEBANON METHODIST CHURCH OF GREENWOOD ON THE OCCASION OF ITS HISTORIC ONE HUNDRED NINETIETH ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND THE CHURCH FOR NEARLY TWO CENTURIES OF SERVICE TO GOD AND THE COMMUNITY.
Whereas, having been founded about 1835, Mt. Lebanon Methodist Church of Greenwood is celebrating its historic one hundred ninetieth anniversary in 2025; and
Whereas, early records of Mt. Lebanon have been lost, but a history of the church, written by the Reverend W.A. Betts (pastor of the charge) in 1897, reveals the following: "In 1845, the officers of Mt. Lebanon Church were George Holloway, Martin Hacket, and Stephen Ross. The church had been built about ten years previously"; and
Whereas, today, under the leadership of Pastor Tony Watson, the members of Mt. Lebanon continue to stand on the faith and strength of the church's early pastors and members and, "[pressing] toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:14), continue to proclaim the Word of God; and
Whereas, Mt. Lebanon has been a beacon of light and a community worship center in the Greenwood area for almost two centuries, and, God willing, will continue its godly heritage for many more years of worship and service. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Mt. Lebanon Methodist Church of Greenwood on the occasion of its historic one hundred ninetieth anniversary and commend the church for nearly two centuries of service to God and the community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mt. Lebanon Methodist Church.
