VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE Rock Hill High School girls wrestling TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2025 SOUTH CAROLINA Class AAAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Rock Hill girls wrestling team of York County captured the state title at the first state meet for girls wrestling by the South Carolina High School League held at Dreher High School in Columbia on Saturday, February 8, 2025; and
Whereas, to the cheers of their exuberant fans, the Rock Hill Lady Bearcats defeated a fine, competitive Greenwood High School, 46-36, to win the first-ever girls wrestling state duals championship; and
Whereas, Head Coach Cain Beard started the girls wrestling program in the 2019-2020 school year with six athletes, and the roster has steadily grown for five years to sixteen in this championship season. With some students coming from the middle schools, the future of the program is promising; and
Whereas, Lady Bearcat Maggie Cogar won her match at 130 pounds; teammate Braylon Adams won at 135, Alyciah Thomas at 145, Riley Faris at 170, Brismar Velazquez at 190, Kamyla Torres at 100, Sirenity Davis at 105, and Jenger Rhodes at 120; and
Whereas, Rock Hill had singles champions before, but the state meet was very different: from the team's best grapplers to the least experienced, all of the girls were able to feel what it is like to be the very best wrestling team in their State, a feeling that will stay with them for the rest of their lives; and
Whereas, in a sport that demands mental fortitude and individual excellence, strategy and strength, Coach Beard and his skilled coaching staff maximized their own athletic experience and training to forge a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the mats; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives values the pride and recognition that the Rock Hill wrestlers have brought to their school and their community, and the members look forward to following their continued achievements in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Rock Hill High School girls wrestling team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2025 South Carolina Class AAAAA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Ozzie Ahl and Coach Cain Beard.
