A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE OAKLAND BAPTIST CHURCH OF ROCK HILL ON THE OCCASION OF ITS SEVENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND THE CHURCH FOR THREE-QUARTERS OF A CENTURY OF SERVICE TO GOD AND THE COMMUNITY.
Whereas, having been founded in 1950, Oakland Baptist Church of Rock Hill is celebrating its seventy-fifth anniversary in 2025; and
Whereas, located one block from Winthrop University, Oakland Baptist offers an expansive music program; a variety of opportunities for spiritual growth; and focused ministries for children, youth, and adults. The church is actively involved in being the hands and feet of Christ in its community and around the world through many mission and ministry projects; and
Whereas, with both men and women functioning as servants and leaders, the members of the congregation try to embody what Jesus declared were the two greatest commandments: in short, love God and love others; and
Whereas, Oakland Baptist, by God's grace having weathered the storms and triumphantly celebrated the victories the years have brought, continues to pass on a rich heritage of faith; and
Whereas, presently led by the Reverend Dr. Jeff Hayes as senior pastor and still trusting in God, the church will hold a joyful celebration of its milestone seventy-fifth anniversary on Sunday, July 13, 2025, with a special worship service and luncheon; and
Whereas, Oakland Baptist Church has been a beacon of light and a community worship center in the Rock Hill area for seventy-five years, and, God willing, will continue its godly heritage for many more years of worship and service. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Oakland Baptist Church of Rock Hill on the occasion of its seventy-fifth anniversary and commend the church for three-quarters of a century of service to God and the community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Oakland Baptist Church of Rock Hill.
