A house RESOLUTION

To thank Dr. Dawn Bingham for her more than twenty years of service and contributions to women's health in the field of obstetrics and Gynecology in South Carolina and to wish her much success as she begins the next chapter in her medical career.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives have learned that Dr. Dawn Bingham, an obstetrician and gynecologist with Prisma Health in Columbia, will be leaving her post after more than twenty years of service to practice medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut - the second largest hospital in the United States - and to teach at Yale School of Medicine; and

Whereas, for over two decades Dr. Bingham has dedicated her life to women's health as a board-certified OB/GYN in both private practice and academic medicine. She holds significant roles in healthcare leadership including vice chair of the Campus Executive Committee at Prisma Health and legislative chair for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) District IV, spearheading initiatives to improve women's healthcare accessibility and education; and

Whereas, she is an esteemed educator who has developed curricula and mentored medical professionals, enhancing medical training and advocacy. She also is known for integrating clinical expertise with robust advocacy to address public health challenges, offering innovative solutions in diverse healthcare environments; and

Whereas, in preparation for her career in medicine, Dr. Bingham earned a bachelor's degree in international studies with a minor in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1992. She received a master's degree from Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University in Atlanta in 1994, a Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans in 2001, and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Greenville Hospital System Residency Program in Greenville between 2001 and 2005; and

Whereas, Dr. Bingham began her medical career in private practice providing healthcare to women in Spartanburg from 2005 to 2014. Dr. Bingham worked as a telemedicine provider and as an OB Hospitalist before joining Prisma University Specialty Clinics Department of OB/GYN at the University of South Carolina's Columbia School of Medicine in 2016. Along the way Dr. Bingham has garnered a myriad of honors and serves on numerous boards. Most recently she is a member of the National Ob-GynPAC Committee, an ACOG Fellow, and is a member of the Society for Academic Specialists in general obstetrics and gynecology. She recently served as ACOG South Carolina section chair, and as a member of the ACOG Lame Duck Lobbying Coalition; and

Whereas, in February Dr. Bingham received the Planned Parenthood South Atlantic Moxon Advocacy Award for exceptional leadership in women's healthcare, equality, and reproductive justice. She has been twice nominated for the prestigious Leonard H. Tow Humanism in Medicine Award, most recently in 2024, and in 2022, she was the recipient of both the Prisma Health Woman of Impact Award and the United Way of Piedmont Advocate of the Year Award; and

Whereas, grateful for the years spent focusing on and advocating for women's health in South Carolina, members of the South Carolina House will miss her presence and are excited to see how she continues to shape the future of women's health. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, thank Dr. Dawn Bingham for her more than twenty years of service and contributions to women's health in the field of obstetrics and gynecology in South Carolina and wish her much success as she begins the next chapter in her medical career.
