VERSIONS OF THIS BILL

A senate RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE the city of Westminster UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS one hundred fiftieth ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND the citizens of the city FOR their MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize the City of Westminster as it celebrates this important milestone; and

Whereas, the City of Westminster was officially incorporated on March 17, 1875. Dr. Johns and Albert Zimmerman bought twenty-five acres of land and surveyed it into streets and town lots. Mr. Zimmerman built the first house and the first store in Westminster, and the town blossomed into a commercial hub around the railroad, featuring banks, car dealerships, and general stores; and

Whereas, over the years, Westminster became home to major textile mills. Beacon Mill was the longest running mill, with Beacon Industries taking over production of Oconee Mill in 1938 and remaining a major employer until 2002; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment of the citizens of Westminster to serving the people and the State of South Carolina.  Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the City of Westminster upon the occasion of its one hundred fiftieth anniversary and commend the citizens of the city for their many years of dedicated service to the people and the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the mayor of Westminster, Brian Ramey.
