A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE carolyn mitchum umphlett FOR receiving the highest civilian honor in the state of south carolina, the order of the palmetto.

 

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to learn that Carolyn Mitchum Umphlett has been awarded the highest civilian honor in the State of South Carolina, the Order of the Palmetto; and

 

Whereas, according to the Association of Counties, Ms. Carolyn is the longest currently-serving state or county employee on record, having devoted sixty-four years of service to our State; and

 

Whereas, Ms. Carolyn began her career in the Treasurer's Office upon graduation from high school in 1961. In 1980, she ran for County Treasurer and won. She has served faithfully ever since and plans to retire on June 30, 2025; and

 

Whereas, a devout Christian, she is a member of Moncks Corner United Methodist Church. Those who know her praise her as an individual who selflessly places the needs of others above her own; and

 

Whereas, the Senate is grateful for Ms. Carolyn's dedicated service to the people and the State of South Carolina and takes great pleasure in saluting her for receiving the prestigious Order of the Palmetto award.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Carolyn Mitchum Umphlett for receiving the highest civilian honor in the State of South Carolin, the Order of the Palmetto.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Carolyn Mitchum Umphlett.
