A senate RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE PASSING OF DEACONESS LOUISE SEAWRIGHT MYERS, TO CELEBRATE HER LIFE, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened by the passing of Deaconess Louise Seawright Myers on January 12, 2025, at the venerable age of 82; and
Whereas, born on November 23, 1942, Louise was the third child of Joe Nathan and Mary Seawright of Swansea. The young Louise attended the Lexington County public schools and graduated as salutatorian of the Monroe Pinkney High School Class of 1960. She attended South Carolina State College in Orangeburg; and
Whereas, in August 1962, Louise became the wife of David Myers Jr., and the newlyweds, in God's good time, were blessed with four children, David, Arthur, Mary, and Stanley; and
Whereas, a woman of faith, Louise joined Gethsemane Baptist Church in North, and as an active member of Gethsemane she gave her untiring support to her home church. There, she served as a member of the Pulpit Aide Committee and Senior Choir, taught the Youth Sunday School class, and worked on several projects involving youth. She served as president of the Missionary Society and was past president of the Missionary Society of the St. Matthews Sunday School Convention. For over forty years, she enjoyed her role as Gethsemane's church secretary. Taking her role as a deaconess seriously, she provided whatever that office required. Until she became physically ill and unable to attend church, she faithfully served God at Gethsemane; and
Whereas, during the course of her career, Louise eventually began her employment with the Lexington County Public School District in Swansea and served that district as a teacher with the Head Start Home-Based Program. In this position, she assisted with the early education of children throughout the community. She also worked as a teacher's aide and as an aide for special needs students in Swansea schools; and
Whereas, in 1991, after her retirement, Louise and Junior Myers opened the Myers Care Facility. Through their gifts of helping people who needed assistance with daily living, they rendered care to more than one hundred fifty people. The Myers Care Facility now stands as a testament to the blessing that flows when caregivers love people in their time of need; and
Whereas, preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty years, Deacon David Myers Jr., as well as by their youngest child, Stanley L. Myers Sr., Esquire, Louise leaves to cherish her memory her children, David Myers III (Charlotte), Arthur Myers (Denise), and Mary Myers; her daughter-in-law, Tashia Myers (Stanley); her grandchildren, Jamaal Myers, Allison Myers, Arthur Myers Jr., Alexandria Huggins (Roderick), Morgan Davis, Stanley Myers Jr., and Hayley Myers; four great-grandchildren; her brothers Eugene Seawright (Margaret) and Harry Seawright (Sherita); an uncle, Robert Lee Major (Mildred); a brother-in-law, Johnny Lee Hook; and a host of other loving family members and dear friends. She will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Deaconess Louise Seawright Myers, celebrate her life, and extend the deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family.
