A senate RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE Robert H. Boyles Jr. UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS many YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE to the people and the state of south carolina, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE YEARS AHEAD.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Robert H. Boyles Jr. upon the occasion of his retirement from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR); and
Whereas, Mr. Boyles received a Master of Marine Policy from the University of Delaware and a Bachelor of Science in mathematical economics from Wake Forest University. He was a Bradley fellow in Marine Policy at the Duke University Marine Lab; and
Whereas, prior to joining the SCDNR, Robert worked as assistant to the director for programs at the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium. Robert was a Dean John A. Knauss Sea Grant Marine Policy fellow, where he worked for the NOAA Coastal Ocean Program; and
Whereas, Mr. Boyles began his career with SCDNR as an hourly employee in 1992, working on coastal fish and wildlife habitat issues with the South Carolina Wildlife & Marine Resources Department, the forerunner agency of today's SCDNR; and
Whereas, Mr. Boyles served as SCDNR Deputy Director for Marine Resources from 2003 to 2019. As Deputy Director, Mr. Boyles led all aspects of the operations, management, and policy coordination for the Marine Resources Division. In this role, Robert represented the State of South Carolina on several regional and national marine resources stewardship panels; and
Whereas, Mr. Boyles served on the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council from 2005 to 2012. He also served as commissioner, vice chair, and chair of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission. Mr. Boyles serves as president of the Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies and chair of the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium Board of Directors; and
Whereas, over the years, Mr. Boyles has received a number of honors and awards, including the Captain David H. Hart Award, which was awarded to him in 2023 by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission for his outstanding contributions to the sustainable management of marine resources along the eastern seaboard; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the passion and dedication that Mr. Boyles has shown in serving the people and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Robert H. Boyles Jr. upon the occasion of his retirement, commend him for his many years of dedicated service, and wish him much happiness and fulfillment in the years ahead.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Robert H. Boyles Jr.
