A senate RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE the South Carolina school boards association UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS seventy-fifth ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND the association FOR ITS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize the South Carolina School Boards Association as it celebrates this important milestone; and
Whereas, the South Carolina School Boards Association is the oldest and only organization representing all the school boards in the seventy-two school districts in the State, embodying the interests of nearly six hundred school board members and more than seven hundred thousand public education students; and
Whereas, the South Carolina School Boards Association was founded in 1950 in Columbia by a pioneering group of school board members and business leaders who sought to establish a broad continuity in public education that was lacking in South Carolina; and
Whereas, as the leading voice in South Carolina representing all the school boards and members across the State, the South Carolina School Boards Association has successfully championed legislative solutions that support school districts and has worked closely with State leadership and the South Carolina General Assembly, informing members of the realities of local implementation of proposed legislation; and
Whereas, as the leading advocate for quality public education and the equipping of school boards through training and services, the South Carolina School Boards Association supports the four major roles envisioned for all the nation's school boards: vision, basic structure, accountability, and advocacy; and
Whereas, the South Carolina School Boards Association and local school boards recognize the critical role that parents and the community have in supporting a strong public education system; and
Whereas, the South Carolina School Boards Association's Annual Day at the Capitol brings hundreds of board members from across the State together at the State House to ensure that each member's voice be heard in decision-making; and
Whereas, the South Carolina School Boards Association works in partnership with twenty-four other school board associations across the country to support, promote, and strengthen school board members and school districts; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment of the South Carolina School Boards Association to serving the people and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the South Carolina School Boards Association upon the occasion of its seventy-fifth anniversary and commend the association for its many years of dedicated service to the people and the State of South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the South Carolina School Boards Association.
