A concurrent RESOLUTION

 

TO welcome the NATIONAL COMMANDER OF THE AMERICAN LEGION, the honorable james a. lacoursiere, and to invite him to address the general assembly in joint session in the chamber of the south carolina house of representatives at 12:30 p.m. on wednesday, march 5, 2025.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to invite the Honorable James A. LaCoursiere Jr., National Commander of the American Legion, to address a joint assembly of the General Assembly; and

 

Whereas, LaCoursiere was born to a military family in Honolulu, Hawaii. He attended Montville High School, where he played junior varsity football, varsity football, and varsity track; and

 

Whereas, LaCoursiere was elected National Commander of the American Legion on August 29, 2024, in New Orleans, during the 105th American Legion National Convention; and

 

Whereas, an Air Force veteran, LaCoursiere has been a longtime field representative for the American Legion Department of Connecticut's Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines Fund, which financially assists veterans and their families in need; and

 

Whereas, LaCoursiere has held many leadership positions at the American Legion post, department, and national levels. He is a member of the American Legion Post 91 in Moosup, Connecticut. He has also served as a national vice commander, a Connecticut state commander, and a chairman of the national Legislative Commission; and

 

Whereas, as national commander, LaCoursiere is committed to raising awareness for the American Legion's Be the One mission to prevent veteran suicide; and

 

Whereas, LaCoursiere is married to his wife, Lisa, and together they have two children, Patrick and Meghan, and three stepchildren, Jason, Kaylene, and the late Johnathan.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

 

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, welcome the National Commander of the American Legion, the Honorable James A. LaCoursiere, and invite him to address the General Assembly in Joint Session in the Chamber of the South Carolina House of Representatives at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable James A. LaCoursiere.
