A house RESOLUTION

 

TO CELEBRATE THE NORTH CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR A SUPERB SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THE LADY KNIGHTS ON NETTING THE 2024 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

 

Whereas, with precision and persistence, the North Central High School volleyball team proved its mettle and earned gold at the 2024 Class AA state competition, held at Dreher High School in Columbia on Friday, November 16, 2024; and

 

Whereas, the team etched its name in the record books at state, completing an unbeaten season and earning the program's first state championship with a 3-0 win over Ninety Six. Further, it was just the second championship for a team sport in school history. It was also the Lady Knights' third championship appearance and first since 2021; and

 

Whereas, North Central finished the year 33-0-1, with the lone tie coming against First Presbyterian in a tournament back in September 2024; and

 

Whereas, during the title competition, the Lady Knights won the first set 25-19 and used a 6-0 run to win the second set 25-17, but the third set was the most competitive. Ninety Six jumped out to a 6-3 lead, its largest of the match. Mya Elliott had a block and then a kill to put the Lady Knights ahead 12-11, but Ninety Six battled back and tied it 19-19 before Norwood's kill put North Central back up 20-19. Norwood had two more kills in the set, including the final one that sealed the championship; and

 

Whereas, senior Addie Bittner led the Lady Knights with 19 kills and racked up 12 digs, while senior Mary Norwood had 16 kills, two aces, and eight digs. Aubrey Taylor, also a senior, led the team with 41 assists; and

 

Whereas, thanks to the first-class leadership of Head Coach Andy Johnson and Assistant Coach Nicole Gainey, the talented athletes of the North Central volleyball team showed out like the champions they are; and

 

Whereas, proud of the fine achievements of these young athletes, the House takes great pleasure in applauding the North Central High School volleyball team and in extending best wishes for much continued success in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution,  celebrate the North Central High School volleyball team, coaches, and school officials for a superb season and congratulate the Lady Knights on netting the 2024 Class AA State Championship title.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal David Branham and Head Coach Andy Johnson of North Central High School.
