A house RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE THE HONORABLE AMY MCCULLOCH, PROBATE JUDGE OF RICHLAND COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER ELECTION AS PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL COLLEGE OF PROBATE JUDGES.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives have learned that the Honorable Amy McCulloch, Richland County probate judge, has been elected president of the National College of Probate Judges; and

 

Whereas, the National College of Probate Judges, organized in 1968, is the only national organization exclusively dedicated to improving probate law and probate courts. Among its purposes is the provision of continuing judicial education for probate judges and related personnel; and

 

Whereas, Judge McCulloch, a former 5th Circuit assistant solicitor (1991-1996), was first elected probate judge in Richland County in 1998. She has been re-elected to successive four-year terms ever since; and

 

Whereas, her duties as probate judge include overseeing estates of deceased persons, guardianship issues, marriage licenses, the involuntary commitment of individuals to institutions, or matters of trust. Judge McCulloch also has worked on issues concerning mental and behavioral health, including abuse and suicide prevention. Among her accomplishments as a probate judge is the establishment of a website for issues concerning estates, marriage licenses, and other areas of legal interest. In the future, she plans to aim at supplying more education to probate judges on how to oversee guardianships and conservatorships; and

 

Whereas, Columbia native Amy McCulloch is a 1984 graduate of Dreher High School, as well as a 1987 graduate of the University of South Carolina and a 1990 University of South Carolina School of Law graduate; and

 

Whereas, the House takes great pleasure in recognizing Judge McCulloch on this, her latest accolade, her election to serve as president of the National College of Probate Judges. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Honorable Amy McCulloch, a probate judge of Richland County, upon the occasion of her election as president of the National College of Probate Judges.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Amy McCulloch.
