A house RESOLUTION

 

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR DR. John T. MCCOY, PASTOR OF NAZARETH BAPTIST CHURCH IN ROCK HILL, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF MEANINGFUL MINISTRY AND SERVICE TO THE CONGREGATION.

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Dr. John T. McCoy will celebrate twenty-five years of ministry to the congregation of Nazareth Baptist Church on October 20, 2024; and

 

Whereas, the son of Dr. James McCoy Sr. and Mary F. McCoy, he was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, the fourth of nine children, and was educated in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System; and

 

Whereas, Dr. McCoy attended Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina; J.W. Teamer School of Religion and Metrolina Seminary Extension, both in Charlotte; Shaw University School of Divinity in Raleigh, North Carolina; Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia; and Jacksonville Theological Seminary in Florida. He graduated summa cum laude from the Institute of Biblical Studies at Liberty University; and

 

Whereas, he holds a Bachelor of Theology, Bachelor of Divinity, Master of Arts in Religious Theology, Doctor of Theology, and Doctor of Philosophy in Christian psychology; and

 

Whereas, Dr. McCoy served as the associate pastor of the New St. John Baptist Church in Charlotte for six years and was formerly pastor of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in McConnells.  He is an instructor for the Congress of Christian Education for the State of South Carolina and a former professor of religion and psychology at Clinton College in Rock Hill; and

 

Whereas, he served his denomination as the dean of the Upper Division of the Sandy River Baptist Association and as its past moderator. He is the former Region Five vice president of the Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina; and

 

Whereas, a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., he is married to Machele McCoy. For the last twenty-five years, Dr. McCoy has served as the pastor of the Nazareth Baptist Church in Rock Hill with his life motto that "the noblest thing a man can do is his best." Under his leadership the church has purchased one hundred seventy-seven acres of land, and the congregation is involved in the Pack the Lunch Program for School District 3 and serves the community in various outreaches; and 

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is grateful for Dr. McCoy's many years of service to the people of God, and the members are pleased to wish him many more years of service on his twenty-fifth anniversary of ministry at Nazareth Baptist Church. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Dr. John T. McCoy, pastor of Nazareth Baptist Church in Rock Hill, and congratulate him for twenty-five years of meaningful ministry and service to the congregation.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. John T. McCoy.
