A house RESOLUTION

 

to congratulate the byrnes high school rebel regiment marching band, Band Directors, and school officials for an outstanding season and to honor them for winning the south carolina class AAAAAA marching band state championship.

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is proud to recognize the Byrnes High School Rebel Regiment Marching Band for winning the South Carolina Class AAAAAA State Championship on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Spartanburg High School; and

 

Whereas, this historic victory marks the first-ever 6A championship win. The Rebel Regiment marching band has flourished under the leadership and guidance of Band Director Chris Moss; and

 

Whereas, in an exhilarating competition, the Rebel's showcased their incredible talent, dedication, and hard work, ultimately defeating Wando High School in a thrilling finale; and

 

Whereas, the marching band also walked away with the top awards for Overall Visual and Overall Effect in the competition. The Rebel Regiment achieved an astounding final overall score of 93.9 to Wando's 93.35; and

 

Whereas, the band was flawless throughout the competition, winning Upper State champion after their preliminary run earlier in the day. This championship win was the culmination of months of rehearsals, late-night practices, and unwavering commitment for band members, directors, and staff; and

 

Whereas, topping off a phenomenal season, the band also took home the title of Grand Champion at the Bands of America regional competition in Conway, securing its first Bands of America win in twenty-five years. Just weeks later, they secured second place in the Johnson City regional, competing against some of the top bands from across the southeastern U.S.; and

 

Whereas, for the first time in a quarter of a century, the James F. Byrnes High School Rebel Regiment marching band can call themselves the Grand Champion of a Bands of America Regional competition.  They marched away from the Carolina Regional Saturday, October 12, with the top trophy in hand, along with a first-place award in General Effect. The last time the Rebel Regiment was crowned champion of a Bands of America Regional event was in 1999; and

 

Whereas, a devoted and steadfast group of outstanding young women and men, brought home an abundance of hardware, rounding out a historical marching season; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the pride and recognition that the Byrnes High School Marching Band has brought to its school and community and look forward to a future filled with further accomplishments by the band. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Byrnes High School Rebel Regiment Marching Band, band directors, and school officials for an outstanding season and honor them for winning the South Carolina Class AAAAAA Marching Band State Championship.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Erin Greenway and Band Director Chris Moss of Byrnes High School.
