A house RESOLUTION
TO recognize and honor THE BROOME HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS STRENGTH TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS for AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO congratulate THEM FOR WINNING THE 2024 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the Broome High School strength team of Spartanburg County captured the state title championship at the state meet at Blythewood High School on November 9, 2024; and
Whereas, to the excitement of their faithful fans, the thirty-two members of the Broome Lady Centurion strength team posted 41 points, outscoring every other team in the meet; and
Whereas, across the junior varsity and varsity divisions at the state championship, Broome High School produced seven state champions and broke six state records. Sixteen athletes achieved All-State status; and
Whereas, Lady Centurions Maggie Humphries, Natalie Ervin, Madison Watson, Kourtney Wofford, Zoey Cooksey, Tiarra Dimsdale, and Shamya Wilkins were state champions in their categories; and
Whereas, in the junior division, Breanna Daniels, Riley Carson, Alaina Yother, and Keely Brown were named to All-State; and
Whereas, in Broome's varsity division, Tiarra Dimsdale, Shamya Wilkins, and Emilee Wilkey became the new state record holders in their classes. Zaria Nash, Abby Genobles, Dakota Mitchell, Mahalia Williams, and Emilee Wilkey achieved All-State status; and
Whereas, in a sport that exacts mental fortitude and individual excellence, Coaches Chad Cooksey, Liz Cooksey, and Rebecca Cooper maximized their own athletic training and experience to forge a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable throughout their lives; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the pride and recognition that the members of the Broome strength team have brought to their school and to their community, and the members look forward to following their continued accomplishments in the days to come. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Broome High School girls strength team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2024 South Carolina Class AAA State Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Josh Fowler; to Coaches Chad Cooksey, Liz Cooksey, and Rebecca Cooper; and to the Broome High School girls strength team.
