A house RESOLUTION

 

to celebrate the Cardinal Newman School wrestling team, coaches, and school officials for a remarkable season and to congratulate them on capturing the 2025 South Carolina Independent School association class 4A state championship title.

 

Whereas, the Cardinal Newman wrestling team reached the top of the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) ranks once again, when the Cardinals claimed the top prize in the 2025 SCISA Class 4A State Championship held at Ben Lippen School on February 1, 2025; and

 

Whereas, the Cardinals dominating performance Saturday led them to finish with a score of 52-30 to win the SCISA Class 4A championship.  This win gave the Cardinals their eleventh state title and second one in a row.  Cardinal Newman defeated John Paul II in last year's championship match; and

 

Whereas, the Cardinals believe in their team and work together as a family.  They commit tireless hours to the weight room and show unwavering support for each other.  This solidarity has led them to become state champions; and

 

Whereas, in a sport that exacts stamina and expertise, Coach Cole McCarter drew on his own athletic experience and training to hone a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes life principles that will last well beyond their battles on the mat.  The win gives Coach McCarter his sixth state championship.  He was part of four team titles as a wrestler, and now, two as a head coach; and

 

Whereas, the Cardinal Newman wrestling team has given their school and community reason to be proud of their accomplishments, and the members of the House of Representatives take great pleasure in adding their collective voice to the glowing praise flowing to this outstanding group of young athletes.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, celebrate the Cardinal Newman School wrestling team, coaches, and school officials for a remarkable season and congratulate them on capturing the 2025 South Carolina Independent School Association Class 4A State Championship title.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Charles Assey and Coach Cole McCarter of Cardinal Newman School.
