A house RESOLUTION

 

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE CHESTER HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING TEAM FOR A STELLAR SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THE CYCLONES ON WINNING THE 2025 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Chester High School wrestling team captured the Class AA top prize at this year's state tournament, held at Dreher High School in Columbia on Saturday, February 8, 2025; and

 

Whereas, to the cheers of their delighted fans, the Chester Cyclones won with a dominant 65-17 decision against Buford to claim their first-ever state wrestling crown and thus make school history; and

 

Whereas, Chester was in complete control of Buford from start to finish. In addition to a first state wrestling title, the win gave the Cyclones their first team title for any sport at the school since 2018 and only the second title in any boys sport in the past sixty-three years; and

 

Whereas, in a sport that demands mental fortitude and stamina, Head Coach Dennis Jensen capitalized on his own athletic ability and experience to forge a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable throughout life, both on and off the mats; and

 

Whereas, while the title victory did give the Cyclones a first-ever wrestling state title, Chester is not a one-year wonder. Coach Jensen has been at the program's helm for eight years, and the program has consistently grown and has five straight region championships to its credit. Further, the team has gotten close to the top the last two years and has enjoyed success while undergoing some minor rebuilds. Moving current team members up to varsity as youngsters has made a big difference, as has the advantage of having competitive wrestlers in every weight class; and

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the pride and recognition the Chester wrestlers have brought to their school and community, and the members look forward to following their continued achievements in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Chester High School wrestling team for a stellar season and congratulate the Cyclones on winning the 2025 Class AA State Championship title.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Abram Scott and Head Coach Dennis Jensen of Chester High School.
