_______
A concurrent RESOLUTION
TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE SECTION OF Interstate highway 85 FROM MILE MARKER 41 TO MILE MARKER 42 IN GREENVILLE COUNTY "SGT. W.C. JUMPER HIGHWAY" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS LOCATION CONTAINING THIS DESIGNATION.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Sergeant William Conley Jumper on October 20, 2020; and
Whereas, Sgt. Jumper served the citizens of Greenville County as a faithful lawman for over twenty-eight years. He was one of four Greenville County deputies assigned to the fulltime criminal interdiction unit; and
Whereas, Sgt. Jumper spent the majority of his career as a canine handler. His last canine, Tango, was a single-purpose dog who located dangerous narcotics within the Greenville community. Sgt. Jumper and Tango were a dynamic team who spent countless hours patrolling Interstate Highway 85, a corridor that is known as a common roadway utilized by major drug traffickers; and
Whereas, Sgt. Jumper was killed in the line of duty while working Interstate Highway 85 in Greenville County. He lost his life doing what he did best: protecting the innocent and the weak; and
Whereas, it would be fitting and proper to pay tribute to this son of South Carolina by naming the portion of road where he sacrificed his life in his honor. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, request the Department of Transportation name the section of Interstate Highway 85 from mile marker 41 to mile marker 42 in Greenville County "Sgt. W.C. Jumper Highway" and erect appropriate markers or signs at this location containing this designation.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
