A house RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE GRACE SOWELL ROBERTS OF KERSHAW ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

 

Whereas, on Thursday, July 3, 2025, Grace Sowell Roberts of Kershaw will awaken to the celebration of a milestone event: her one hundredth birthday; and

 

Whereas, born on July 3, 1925, in the first quarter of the twentieth century, Grace has witnessed the many remarkable social changes, technological advancements, and international developments that have spanned the globe from that time into the first quarter of the twenty-first century; and

 

Whereas, in the fullness of time, the young Grace, daughter of the late Edgar Luther and Ila Naomi Gay Sowell, met and married her beloved husband, Truman Roberts, the Lord blessing the happy couple with a delightful family: their daughter, Celia; two grandchildren, Scott and Stacey; and four great-grandchildren, Savanna, Hunter, Caroline, and Xander; and

 

Whereas, as a woman of faith, Grace Roberts finds her spiritual home at Kershaw Second Baptist Church, where she has taught Sunday school for more than sixty years, in addition to her past active involvement with numerous other church organizations. In more recent days, she has been honored as the church's oldest member; and

 

Whereas, without a license or formal training, Grace taught a sort of mathematics through her example when she added the values of love and hard work to her life; subtracted a can't-do attitude from her mind; multiplied these concepts in her home, church, and community; and divided them among her loved ones; and

 

Whereas, it is a great pleasure to honor this daughter of South Carolina at the celebration of her one hundredth birthday, and it is a further pleasure to join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this important life milestone. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Grace Sowell Roberts of Kershaw on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and much happiness in the days ahead.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Grace Sowell Roberts.
