A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE Ferria Malenda Lake Goodwin OF Greenville COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER eighty-fifth BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MANY YEARS OF CONTINUED HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are delighted to learn that Malenda Lake Goodwin of Greenville County will celebrate her eighty-fifth birthday on April 8, 2025; and

 

Whereas, born on April 8, 1940, in the first half of the twentieth century, she has witnessed the many remarkable social changes, technological advancements, and international developments that have spanned the globe from that time into the first quarter of the twenty-first century; and

 

Whereas, a daughter of Ben and Ferria Anderson Lake, Malenda was born in Greenville County and was reared on University Ridge until her family moved to Taylors in the late 1940s. She grew up in a loving home with four sisters: Bennett, Carol, Phyllis, and Iris and stepsister, Delitha Allmond; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Goodwin attended the Rosenwald Schools and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1958. She was a class officer and a world-class basketball player and was inducted into the Palmetto Hall of Fame for her outstanding high school basketball career. She attended South Carolina State after high school for a year; and

 

Whereas, she returned home to the love of her life, Edward Lee Goodwin Sr., and together they reared five fine children: Janice Goodwin Jackson, Edward Jr., Michelle Goodwin-Calwile, Mark Anthony, and Corey Scott. Her children have blessed her with the affection of eighteen adoring grandchildren. She has had the joy of seeing her loving family legacy continued in the lives of fourteen great-grandchildren; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Goodwin worked at Piedmont Shirt Factory and then at Union Carbide, which is now Kemet Electronics, until she retired. A faithful member of Aiken Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, she served the congregation over the years in many leadership positions. She also was a leader in the Mt. Pleasant Community and taught her children to serve others; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to honor this daughter of South Carolina at the celebration of her eighty-fifth birthday and join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this milestone. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Ferria Malenda Lake Goodwin of Greenville County on the occasion of her eighty-fifth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and many years of continued health and happiness.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Malenda Lake Goodwin.
