VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE PASSING OF MARCHITTA LORRAINE FRAYER, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Marchitta Lorraine Frayer on January 7, 2017 at her residence in North Charleston, South Carolina; and
Whereas, Marchitta Lorraine Frayer, known to most as "Ms. Tee," was born on May 16, 1952 in Charleston, South Carolina to the late Carl Daniel and Helen Margaret Ferrette. Marchitta was the youngest of four children; and
Whereas, Marchitta entered into holy matrimony with Nathaniel Frayer Sr. The couple had two children, Nathaniel Frayer Jr. and Tammy Frayer-Sterling, and they also raised another child, Yvonne Brown; and
Whereas, after her baptism as an infant at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charleston, Marchitta led a Christian life in service to God. She worshipped at St. Patrick Catholic Church; and
Whereas, Marchitta began her career at a young age, working first as facility manager at the Jack Adams Tennis Court in downtown Charleston. From there, she became a lifeguard and manager at the Herbert Hazel Swimming Pool, coach at Harmon Field Park, and manager of the Arthur W. Christopher City Gymnasium. Marchitta worked as the director of this latter facility for thirty-eight years until her retirement on February 27, 2015. In those years, Ms. Tee touched countless lives, both young and old, through her many programs, most notably the "Jump To It Summer Camp"; and
Whereas, Marchitta served as mother and grandmother to many. She instilled discipline, structure, and respect by giving children the life skills to carry them into adulthood; and
Whereas, Marchitta was a pillar of her Lowcountry community. She worked with the Tri-County Black Nurse's Association health fairs, Thanksgiving charity drives, Burke High School Athletics Booster Club, Community Unity Day, Industry Direct with Nina Nesbitt, Retired Teachers Association, Steven Wilson Brain Study, Royal Courts, and much more. She was awarded the Golden Apple Award for her dedicated service to children and the community; and
Whereas, Marchitta is preceded in death by her oldest sister, Carlotta Francis; and
Whereas, Marchitta leaves to cherish her memory her children, Yvonne Brown, Nathaniel (Kamaria) Frayer Jr., and Tammy (Maurice) Sterling; three brothers, Carl A. (Betty) Ferrette, Jerome (Daisey) Ferrette, and Parrish (Bernitha) Brown; one sister, Marie Brown; a brother-in-law, Newberry Francis; grandchildren, Dominic, Jair, Nalea, Antonio ("AJ"), Maurice Jr. ("MJ"), Cheyenne, and Madison; two uncles, Kenneth Brown and Harold Green; four aunts, Claramel King, Patricia Brown, Elizabeth Ferrette, and Mildred Ferrette; and a host of nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends. She will be missed. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Marchitta Lorraine Frayer and extend their deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Yvonne Brown, Nathaniel Frayer Jr., and Tammy Sterling.
