TO RECOGNIZE MAY 3, 2017 AS "TEN YEARS OF TORI DAY" AND TO HONOR ASHLYE V. WILKERSON FOR HER EFFORTS IN SUPPORTING LITERACY AND LEARNING THROUGH THE TORI R.E.A.D.S MAGIC OF LEARNING INITIATIVE.
Whereas, the mission of the Tori R.E.A.D.S Magic of Learning Initiative is to educate today's youth while encouraging them to participate in the magic of learning. The initiative seeks to provide fun educational activities to engage the child and make the learning process enjoyable; and
Whereas, the Tori R.E.A.D.S Initiative involves products and experiences that focus on the entire child, including four books, Tori Explores South Carolina, Tori Finds Shapes All Around, Tori Finds Colors All Around, and Tori Visits the Farm: Counting 1-10; a Tori plush doll; and Tori colors and letters flash cards; and
Whereas, the Tori R.E.A.D.S Initiative is used in classrooms across the State, in over half of the United States, and abroad; and
Whereas, the City of Columbia, in conjunction with Richland School District One, adopted the Tori R.E.A.D.S Initiative for the third annual Together We Can Read Day Initiative; and
Whereas, the City of Columbia City Council recognized the initiative with Ashlye V. & Tori Day; and
Whereas, the Tori R.E.A.D.S Initiative was selected by Governor Haley and the Original Six Foundation for their Annual Reading Initiative; and
Whereas, the Tori R.E.A.D.S Initiative was implemented in the Early Childhood Curriculum and the Family Book Club in Richland School District One; and
Whereas, Ashlye V. Wilkerson is the founder of The Magic of Learning Foundation and has spearheaded the Tori R.E.A.D.S Initiative by authoring the Tori books. Her motto involves "helping our future, one child at a time"; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the enduring commitment that Ashlye V. Wilkerson has shown in serving the State and the people of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize May 3, 2017 as "Ten Years of Tori Day" and honor Ashlye V. Wilkerson for her efforts in supporting literacy and learning through the Tori R.E.A.D.S Magic of Learning Initiative.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ashlye V. Wilkerson.
