A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR THE LANDER UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS AND COACHES ON NETTING THEIR THIRD STRAIGHT PEACH BELT CONFERENCE EASTERN DIVISION TITLE.

Whereas, with great pleasure, the Senate pauses in its deliberations to offer a tribute to the Lander University women's basketball team, which once again has brought home the Peach Belt Conference Eastern Division title, making it threepeat crowns for this exceptional team (2015, 2016, 2017); and

Whereas, presently celebrating back-to-back 25-win seasons for the first time since 2009-2011, the Lady Bearcats, have earned numerous kudos this season. Significantly, they are the first women's basketball team in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) history to win three consecutive Eastern Division titles. They have completed their fourteenth season of 20+ wins and their third straight 20+ win season (the second time in program history Lander has racked up three straight 20+ seasons); and

Whereas, Lander led its conference with 80.1 points per game, a 42.4 field goal percentage, 17.1 assists per game, 12.1 steals per game, 7.1 three-pointers made per game, and a 1.1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Further, the Lady Bearcats made the PBC Tournament for the twenty-third time in twenty-five years, and they've made eleven overall appearances in the NCAA Tournament; and

Whereas, to add sweetness to an already sweet season, Breshay Johnson won PBC Player of the Year and D2CCA Southeast Region Player of the Year, and she led the nation with 160 offensive rebounds. She and Ty'hesha Reynolds were named First Team All-PBC. Breshay was also named First Team D2CCA Southeast Region, while Ty'hesha was named Second Team. Mylea McKenith was selected PBC Co-Defensive Player of the Year and Second Team All-PBC; and

Whereas, the winningest coach in Lander women's basketball history, Head Coach Kevin Pederson led his players to their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance in twelve seasons; and

Whereas, speaking for all the citizens of this great State, the members of the Senate are proud to lift their collective voice of praise in honoring the dynamic Lander University women's basketball team. Go, Bearcats! Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor the Lander University women's basketball team on an outstanding season and congratulate the players and coaches on netting their third straight Peach Belt Conference Eastern Division title.
