A concurrent RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE MICHAEL A. LOCKLIEAR UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS MAYOR OF THE TOWN OF MONCKS CORNER, TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS TWENTY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE YEARS AHEAD.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Michael A. Lockliear upon the occasion of his retirement as Mayor of the Town of Moncks Corner on January 2, 2024; and

 

Whereas, a lifelong resident of Berkley County, Mayor Lockliear graduated from St. Stephen Academy. His small-town upbringing instilled in him the values of community involvement and determination. He took these values with him when he moved to Moncks Corner; and

 

Whereas, Mayor Lockliear began his service to the citizens of Moncks Corner in 2004 as a town council member, serving until January 1, 2015. During this period, he also held the position of mayor pro-tempore from January 6, 2014, to January 1, 2015; and

 

Whereas, Mayor Lockliear assumed the role of mayor on January 2, 2015, and he served until January 2, 2024; and

 

Whereas, under his leadership, the Town of Moncks Corner experienced enormous population growth and expansion. Mayor Lockliear was an exceptional leader whose passion drove the town's continued improvement, proactively obtaining grants for construction, growth, beautification, and revitalization; and

 

Whereas, Mayor Lockliear pushed to improve the quality of services to residents with the addition of sanitation and stormwater services, a second fire station, the expansion of the recreation complex, football and event soccer fields, walking paths, and a farmer's market; and

 

Whereas, one of Mayor Lockliear's foremost achievements as mayor was the completion of the Miracle League Field. The Miracle League Field is a special facility that is custom-designed to provide opportunities for children and adults to play baseball, regardless of their age or abilities; and

 

Whereas, Mayor Lockliear's faithfulness and consideration to his constituents and community was always evident. Each decision he made served to improve the quality of life for his beloved community. He leaves a legacy of public service and will be remembered for his extraordinary leadership; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the passion and dedication that Mayor Lockliear has shown in serving the people of Moncks Corner and the State of South Carolina.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Michael A. Lockliear upon the occasion of his retirement as Mayor of the Town of Moncks Corner, commend him for his twenty years of dedicated public service, and wish him much happiness and fulfillment in the years ahead.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Michael A. Lockliear.
