Letter from Oversight Committee to DSS (February 10, 2015)
The Oversight Committee notifies DSS that it has been selected for study, provides flow chart of process and explains expectations.
Letter from Oversight Committee to Joint Committee on Children (April 29, 2015)
The Oversight Committee notifies the Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children of the agencies serving children scheduled for study by the Oversight Committee.
Letter from Oversight Ad Hoc Committee (Other Study 1) to DSS (September 30, 2015)
The Ad Hoc Committee requests the following after the September 30, 2015 meeting: (1) Number of requests received for judicial bypass each of the last five years; and (2) Number of requests for judicial bypass granted by the court each of the last five years.

The Ad Hoc Committee notifies DSS that a motion passed during the November 12, 2015 meeting which concluded DSS' involvement in the study, unless, during the remainder of the study, ad hoc committee members learn of additional information for which they need to follow up with the agency.

The Subcommittee requests information about the following topics after the November 23, 2015 meeting: (1) Caseload allocation, including methodology for allocation; (2) Results of employee satisfaction survey; (3) New Agency wide strategic plan; (4) Agency's investigation into the allegations regarding the Spartanburg County Office; and (5) Updated language regarding potential negative impacts.

o The Subcommittee, after the January 6, 2016 meeting, requests information from DSS about agency policies and training relating to domestic violence.

DSS provides the Subcommittee information about agency policies and training relating to domestic violence situations in response to the Subcommittee's January 11, 2016 letter.
Letter from Oversight Subcommittee to DSS (January 26, 2016)
The Subcommittee requests DSS be prepared to discuss questions relating to the following topics during the February 3, 2016 meeting: (1) Performance of private providers engaged by the agency; (2) Training provided to DSS caseworkers relating to interacting with parents; (3) Referrals to parent advocates; (4) Personality tests utilized, if any, when hiring caseworkers; (5) Parent/Guardian surveys; (6) Notification to other state's child protection agencies when an adult involved in a case in SC moves to another state; (7) Relationship between DSS and guardian ad litem; and (8) Background checks performed when a child is placed with a relative.
Letter from DSS to Oversight Subcommittee (January 27, 2016)
DSS provides the Subcommittee with the agency's Strategic Plan which DSS stated was finalized this month. DSS also provides an update on the turnover rate in Child Welfare Services.
Letter from Oversight Subcommittee to DSS (February 4, 2016)
The Subcommittee notifies DSS that in the upcoming meeting the discussion will include how DSS staff approach cases where domestic violence is a factor.
Letter from Oversight Subcommittee to DSS (March 1, 2016)
The Subcommittee notifies DSS that, unless it receives further direction from the full committee, it has completed its work on the study of DSS, with the exception of the Subcommittee's request for information on the status of recommendations at the end of calendar year 2016.
Letter from Oversight Committee to DSS (October 3, 2016)
While the House Legislative Oversight Committee approved its study of the agency on April 13, 2016, the study included a recommendaiton that the full committee follow up with the agency on recommended programmatic revisions at the beginning of the next calendar year. Information was requested from the agency on several issues: domestive violence training for staff; foster care; and other agency operations.
