TO RECOGNIZE DR. HENRY W. BREVARD OF BERKELEY COUNTY AS HE COMPLETES HIS SIXTH YEAR OF SERVICE ON THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF SOUTH CAROLINA STATE COLLEGE AND TO THANK HIM FOR HIS MANY CONTRIBUTIONS IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION.
Whereas, Dr. Henry W. Brevard of Berkeley County completes his sixth year of service on the Board of Trustees of South Carolina State College June 30, 1992. Dr. Brevard currently serves as chairman of the board; and
Whereas, as Assistant Superintendent for Planning and Security in the Berkeley County School District, Dr. Brevard will continue to play a role in South Carolina's educational system; and
Whereas, he served as Adult Education Director and Associate Superintendent for Instruction for Berkeley County School District, 1977-86, Principal of Sandridge Elementary School in Cross, 1969-77, and coach and physical education and biology teacher at Central High School in Cross, 1960-69; and
Whereas, Dr. Brevard received his Doctorate Degree in Educational Administration from South Carolina State College, 1986, Master's Degree in Education and Biology from South Carolina State College in 1969, and Bachelor's Degree in Health and Physical Education from South Carolina State College in 1960; and
Whereas, he has served on the Community Education Advisory Board and has been a member of the South Carolina and National Associations of School Administrators, American Association of School Administrators, and South Carolina Association of Adult and Continuing Education; and
Whereas, Dr. Brevard is involved in his community as a member of Redeemer Episcopal Church in Pineville and of the Moncks Corner Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, in the Palmetto Low Country Health Association, on the Berkeley County Vocational Advisory Board, as a Shriner, Mason, and member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, on the Board of Directors of First National Bank, and in the Easter Seal Society of South Carolina; and
Whereas, in 1985 he trained at the South Carolina State College Management Workshop at Hilton Head Island, 1984 at the South Carolina State College Summer Institute in Educational Management at Cornell University, 1980-81 at the University of South Carolina Training Institute for Racial Desegregation, and 1972 at the University of Georgia in Athens at the Principals' Leadership Institute; and
Whereas, his Doctoral Dissertation was "A Study of the Congruency or Incongruency of Role Perceptions of the Principalship as Held by Public School Teachers and Principals in South Carolina", and currently Dr. Brevard is working on a research project concerning "A Comparative Study of the Effectiveness of Black Male and Female School Administrators in Low Country Schools"; and
Whereas, his numerous honors include Athletic Scholarship at South Carolina State College for football and track, Adult Education Director of the Year, 1977, South Carolina State Department of Education Award for Community Service, 1979, South Carolina State Department of Education Service Award for Program Development, 1981, and National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education, Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award, 1990; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to take note of the accomplishments of Dr. Brevard at this point in his career and wish him well as he continues to serve the people of his community and his State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly recognize Dr. Henry W. Brevard of Berkeley County as he completes his sixth year of service on the Board of Trustees of South Carolina State College and thank him for his many contributions in the field of education.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Brevard.
