CONGRATULATING ANNE WORSHAM RICHARDSON, WORLD-RENOWNED ARTIST AND NATIVE OF TURBEVILLE, CLARENDON COUNTY, UPON HER RECENT INDUCTION INTO THE SOUTH CAROLINA HALL OF FAME.
Whereas, Anne Worsham Richardson was born near Turbeville in Clarendon County; and
Whereas, she has always had a love for living things, and her parents first called her their "artist" at the age of four; and
Whereas, her older sister, Maree, had taught her to read, write, and draw at this very early age; and
Whereas, in 1938 she moved to Charleston and her interest in art continued to grow and develop; and
Whereas, in 1959, her home town of Turbeville honored her with "Anne Worsham Richardson Day", and she had a large exhibit in the Turbeville Schools and presented several of her works to the school library; and
Whereas, over the decades, her artistry flourished and attracted attention and admiration far beyond the borders of South Carolina; and
Whereas, today she is admired worldwide for her exquisite paintings of birds, although her extraordinary talent is multifaceted; and
Whereas, she recently was inducted into the South Carolina Hall of Fame at Myrtle Beach, an honor she richly deserves; and
Whereas, her remarkable ability as an artist, her compassion, and her love of nature and of her native State have made her an individual in whom all South Carolinians take tremendous pride; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly want her to know how happy they are that she has been accorded this rare honor of being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Anne Worsham Richardson, world-renowned artist and native of Turbeville, Clarendon County, upon her recent induction into the South Carolina Hall of Fame.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Richardson and to Mayor Josephine Calvert of the Town of Turbeville.
